Hiring a tutor for your child is a meaningful decision. Here are five factors we recommend considering:

1. Credentials are baseline, not the goal. Look for a Licensed Professional Teacher (LET passer), but also listen for how they explain things during your first exchange.

2. Match by level. A great high school tutor isn't necessarily great for kindergarteners. Specialization matters.

3. Trial sessions matter. Don't commit to a package without at least one initial session.

4. Communication style. Does the tutor talk to your child respectfully? Do they tolerate questions? Are they patient with mistakes?

5. Flexibility. Reschedules, refunds, transparent policies — these matter. The tutor should be available for questions between sessions too.

For Filipino families, the best mix is usually a licensed tutor who can run either online or in-home sessions within your service area.
